Paul Gill – Director

Paul Gill - Director, ESS EcologyPaul set up ESS Ecology in 1995 to provide ecological advice initially to the renewable energy market and has since enjoyed success throughout the construction industry. He has twenty-four years experience of biodiversity survey, research and monitoring work.

He has undertaken large scale surveys of birds, bats and vegetation on over forty onshore development sites, and has surveyed seabirds and marine mammals on eight offshore wind farm sites.  Paul has also surveyed habitat condition and vegetation to NVC and led survey teams over large areas of the Highlands of Scotland.

He has a wealth of experience in project management and project direction, and leads ESS Ecology’s work on onshore and offshore renewables, ecological impact assessment and monitoring.

Paul has an MSc in Environmental Technology (specialising in Ecological Management) from Imperial College London, a BA (Hons) in Zoology from Oxford University.  He is a full member of the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management.

Rob Iredale - Offshore Project Manager

Dr. Rob IredaleRob joined ESS Ecology in June 2011 following two years of commercial experience working on remote sensing for ornithological surveys.  He is currently involved in the project management of two offshore ornithological projects and is providing additional input into data management, analysis and reporting.

Rob possesses a wide range of technical knowledge encompassing the fields of ecology, biology and remote sensing in commercial and research environments.  He is aiming to provide input into current and future ESS offshore projects to maintain the high quality of work currently produced, but to also harness novel technologies to streamline workflows and diversify types of data that are currently collected.  During his involvement in the offshore wind sector he has played a key role in delivering high quality, robust ornithological and marine mammal data for a number of Round 1, 2 and 3 offshore wind farm and development area studies in pre, during and post construction surveys.

Rob possesses a PhD in Applied Environmental Microbiology and BSc (Hons) Microbiology degree, both obtained from the University of Leeds.
