BREEAM
Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessments Method
BREEAM is a globally recognised method for assessing the environmental design and performance of buildings (both existing and new). It is considered by many within the UK's property and construction industry to set the standard for sustainable design and in evaluating and certifying developments in terms of their environmental performance.
Choosing to undertake the Land Use and Ecology section can gain developers extra credits without significant cost increases and could mean the difference between a very good or outstanding rating.
ESS Ecology Services-
ESS Ecology are suitably qualified ecologists and can provide you with the following services to help gain you credits in this section-
- Undertake tree surveys
- Conduct extended Phase 1 habitat survey (local species and habitats) and Phase 2 surveys (if required) to determine ecological value of site
- Undertake detailed protected species surveys where necessary
- Provide developer with report outlining results of the extended Phase 1 survey
- Make recommendations for ecological mitigation / enhancement, in accordance with BREEAM and Local Biodiversity Action Plans
- Provide developer with habitat management plans for at least five years following project completion
- Provide an Ecological Clerk of Works to ensure implementation of recommendations
- Provide ongoing monitoring to assess long term impacts on biodiversity if required
ESS Ecology carry out the ecological component of the EcoHomes Assessment, BREEAM for Offices, BREEAM Retail, Industrial BREEAM and BREEAM Schools and Health Buildings.
